My name is Andrew Moughalian, and I graduated with an M.A. in International Business and Development from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan in September 2023. My personal photography takes me outside – onto the city sidewalks, and into its parks and skies. My work delves into nature, street, abstract, and macro photography. I am especially interested in exploring how these genres intersect.

I believe that photography is inherently selfish; it is taking a slice of the world that does not belong to you, and making it your own. At the same time, I think the magic of images begins not when they are captured, but when they are shared. Countless hours have been spent perfecting the ability to rapidly share photos across the world. A copied image both gains and loses; becomes more prolific, yet more common. But it is in this circulation of images that we can understand the beauty both in our own lives and value beauty in the experiences of others. The word ‘beauty’ in this instance does not indicate the superficial, but rather our awe, our amazement, our appreciation.

My hope is to share my own wonder whenever I am fortunate enough to freeze such fleeting fragments in frame. I hope you will discover at least one image here that makes you pause and admire a point in time, a point of view, or one point of existence. If we share an appreciation for that instant where only one of us was present, then we both can reside in that moment. Connecting over this split second, we might find more commonality within our diverse world.
